What Makes Rampur Greyhounds Special
The Rampur Greyhound is a graceful and powerful sighthound with a rich history in India. They are prized for their loyalty, intelligence, and hunting prowess. While they are formidable hunters, they are also gentle and affectionate companions in a home setting. Their reserved nature with strangers makes them good watchdogs.
Rampur Greyhound History & Origin
The Rampur Greyhound was developed by His Royal Highness Ahmed Ali Khan Bahadur, the Nawab of Rampur. He aimed to create a hound that combined the speed and stamina of the English Greyhound with the hardiness and courage of the native Tazi hounds. This breed was his answer to a versatile hunter capable of taking on formidable prey.
The breed is believed to have been in existence for over 200 years in the Rampur region.
They were the favored hounds of the Maharajas of India for their hunting abilities.
With the decline of princely states and hunting in India, the breed's popularity waned, and it is now considered a rare breed.
The price of a Rampur Greyhound puppy in India can range from ₹5,000 to ₹15,000, though this can vary based on the breeder and lineage.
