Choosing dog boarding in Las Vegas
Dog boarding in and around Las Vegas ranges from small kennels to pet resorts and day care centers with overnight stays. Visit before you book: a good facility will happily show you where dogs sleep, play and eat, and how it keeps them comfortable in every season.
Permits and visiting
Inside Las Vegas city limits, a kennel must hold a professional animal handler permit, which requires an inspection by an animal control officer. Rules differ in neighboring cities and unincorporated Clark County, so ask a facility which permit applies to it. A permit is a baseline: look for clean, cool, dry runs, fresh water, secure fencing, staff who know the dogs by name, and a clear plan for a dog that gets sick.
Vaccines
Most facilities ask for rabies, DHPP and Bordetella (kennel cough), and many ask for canine influenza, whose first course is two doses a few weeks apart. Ask which vaccines a facility requires well before your trip, and how it separates a dog that starts coughing.
In February 2024, FOX5 reported canine influenza cases at three Las Vegas Valley shelters, including a confirmed H3N2 case at Henderson's shelter. Ask your vet whether the canine flu vaccine makes sense for your dog, and keep a dog that is coughing at home.
What to ask
- Where do dogs sleep, and is someone on site overnight?
- Is play time in groups or one dog at a time, and how are groups matched?
- How do they keep dogs cool in a heat wave, indoors and out?
- Which vet do they use in an emergency?
- Can you bring your dog's own food, bedding or medication?
Heat, busy dates and your dog's license
City code requires cooling methods such as misters, swamp coolers or air conditioning when temperatures exceed 105 degrees, so ask a boarding facility how it keeps dogs cool and whether outdoor play is limited at midday. Facilities fill up for summer, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, so book early. Bring your dog's vaccination records and its license: The City of Las Vegas requires licenses for all dogs living in the city, and for dogs and cats over 4 months old, through its pet licensing site. Licenses run for one year and need a valid rabies certificate. The requirement is for residents inside city limits, so check you live in the city; if your address is in Henderson, North Las Vegas or unincorporated Clark County, ask that jurisdiction about its rules.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are boarding kennels permitted in Las Vegas?
Inside Las Vegas city limits, yes: the city requires a professional animal handler permit for kennels and inspects them. Neighboring cities set their own rules, so ask a facility which permit applies, and still visit before you book.
What vaccinations does my dog need for boarding?
Most facilities ask for rabies, DHPP and Bordetella (kennel cough), and many ask for canine influenza. The first canine flu course is two doses a few weeks apart, so plan ahead.
How much does dog boarding cost in Las Vegas?
Prices vary with the facility and the type of room, so ask for a quote. Private suites cost more than standard kennels, and many places charge more over holidays.
How far ahead should I book?
For summer, the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and the winter holidays, book several weeks ahead, because popular facilities fill up.
Should I visit before booking?
Yes. Ask to see where dogs sleep and play, how they keep dogs cool in the heat, and who is on site overnight. Some facilities offer a trial day, which helps nervous dogs settle in.
What should I pack for my dog's stay?
Your dog's usual food, any medication with written instructions, copies of its vaccination records and its license, and your vet's contact details. A familiar blanket or toy can help too.
